Lotus Temple of India

It is a religious center of the Indian Bahá'í community in Delhi, India. It was perfected in 1986 and serves as the mother temple in Indian subcontinent. The Lotus Temple is accessible to all.

Inspired by the lotus flower, so that its outline consists of 27 marble clad petals arranged in groups of three to form nine sides.

The nine doors of the Lotus Temple open onto a central hall with seating for 2,500 people. The main living area has just over 40 meters tall and its surface is made of white marble, this comes from Penteli mountain in Greece, with many of the ancient monuments and many other Bahá'í temples were built.

The architect was Fariborz Sahba, who designed it in 1976.
Much of the needed money to acquire the land was donated by Ardishír Rustampúr of Hyderabad, who donated his entire life savings for this purpose in 1953.

Since opening to the public in December 1986 to 2002 has attracted over 50 million visitors, conceiving it as one of the most visited buildings in the world. The number of visitors surpassed those of the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal.
